Ever wondered what became of the abandoned building next to Italian Pie? Well, the mystery is over. Slidell has a new club for teens, which is making a real splash. Ohana Pier Youth Center, located next to Italian Pie, off of Gause Boulevard is a place for teens ages 13-18 to keep out of trouble and have some good fun. The 8,000 square foot space provides teens with a safe, chaperoned place to eat, play games, and socialize.
Ohana Pier has been in the works since before Hurricane Katrina hit Slidell. With high tech security surveillance systems in place for the facility, and youth “members” receiving cards that will be swiped as they enter and exit the facility, Ohana Pier will be run much like a health club. From billiard tables to live concerts, Ohana Pier offers much to it’s young visitors. The walls are filled with TV sets and gaming systems set up with games such as Guitar Hero and Call Of Duty. Foosball is also available, and music is always playing. “It is a great place for high school kids to hang out with friends. There’s lots to do, it’s a great environment, and a place where everyone can just be themselves,” said Coach St Cyr. SHS teacher who promotes the endeavor.
Ohana Pier may be a youth hangout, but it comes with a bit of a price. A year’s membership will cost $29.95 per person; $49.95 for two people within the same family; or $59.95 for as many as five members within the same family. A six-month membership is $35.95, single person; double, $55.95 for two people within the same family; and $65.95, as many as five members within the same family. The club’s hours of operation will be Thursdays, 3:30 to 9:30 p.m.; Fridays, 3:30 to 11:30 p.m.; and Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. For more information, see Coach St. Cyr, or visit their website, at www.ohahapeir.com.
