There is a time in every teenager”s life when they are tested intellectually, morally, and physically. The time has come for hundreds of SHS juniors to step up to this challenge. The challenge at hand, the Junior Research Project.

Due February 12th, juniors have been struggling in libraries around town, trying to find any information they can on their assigned topic. Topics were chosen from lists provided by teachers. Honors and AP classes could choose from a variety of authors, while average classes can choose from a wider range of problems and subjects. Note Cards are being filled with numerous sources and facts on the assigned topic while teachers diligently track their students’ progress.

“I think the junior research was much harder,” Alyssa Knight, senior, said. “It prepares you a lot for the senior research project.” The junior research paper not only prepares students for their senior research project, but a world after high school. Once college rolls around, students can fall back on their APA and MLA citation skills which assist them in writing college level research papers and completing projects.

In the end it is all worth it. “It’s challenging, but its worth it in the end. It’s giving us a glimpse into the future of what college will be like,”  Kevin Dupey, a junior, said. As February 12th grows dangerously closer and junior nightmares are haunted by source cards and books, it will come to an end. A large part of the junior grade relies on this, but don’t lose any sleep.  “I have had dreams and I have had nightmares, but I have conquered my nightmares because of my dreams.” -Jonas Salk.
